Similar to the Ask, Believe, Receive dictum of The Secret, this is my personal version of how Signs of Affirmation came into existence! I'd been dreaming of the possibility of a small business that would provide a much-needed artistic outlet for my creative spirit. Instead of thinking of all the reasons it couldn't happen, I finally began to believe that it was possible, even if I didn't know how it might be possible. An early morning phone call from a client led to a meeting with an art gallery owner which, in turn, inspired the idea for Signs. I made my artistic debut at her gallery's Grand Opening on March 28th!

Today is Friday was my first commissioned piece, and actually came from and went to members of the Blogspot community (who each have wonderful things to say about the world... I wholeheartedly recommend their blogs!) My sister, the wonderful Boston Pobble has a friend, gnightgirl whose mother is in the early stages of Alzheimer's. gnightgirl's mom was having a hard time remembering what day it was in order to take her medication properly. Evidently she wished aloud for a big sign of some sort that would tell her mom exactly what day it was, and Pobble said, "I know someone who does that!" And so Today is Friday was born. The boards are easy to switch out daily, and, evidently, have been very successful for gnightgirl's mom. I'm thrilled to have been able to help! These could also be used for a kindergarten classroom or in a homeschool setting.

Affirmation Starter Set - $25.00 plus shipping

Shipping will be added to your final total. Most Signs of Affirmation fit nicely into a Flat Rate Priority Mail Box and ship for $8.95 anywhere in the U.S. Signs with more than six Qualities or that contain boards more than 13” long require extra postage. Exact postage will be tallied when you place your order.

The size of the boards I work with varies, depending on what's available to me, but most are 2.5 - 4 inches high (height of the letters), and the lengths depend on the words you've requested, usually 10 - 14 inches long. Small boards are 4- 6 inches long.

*Please Note: Each board is individually hand-crafted using rescued wood and paint that were destined for the landfill. While I make every effort to honor your requests, I cannot guarantee color availability. Your Sign of Affirmation will be unique and will vary from the photos shown.

About Balance

My dear heart, Cougar, recommended that I stay balanced in this endeavor by including the negative aspects of our personalities, since it’s only by embracing our whole selves, recognizing the skills inherent in our dark sides, and using those skills in service to humanity, that we heal and come fully into our own power.

My response is this: Once we have embraced our dark sides and made peace with our whole selves, those skills we now use to serve humanity become the positive aspects of their once negative connotations. For example – If one has learned Manipulation as a survival technique, but now uses that for achieving goals in a healthy and mutually supportive way, someone who was once Manipulative has become someone who is Persuasive. In my life, Judgment has always been one of my biggest lessons. In working with this, I’ve learned that, rather than complain about someone I don’t like, making judgments and condemnations, I can Discern that a particular person is not the kind of person I want as a friend, then let them go. I move from Judgmental to Discerning.

If you are plagued with negative thoughts about yourself or your life, take a moment to notice what valuable skills those Qualities have taught you. Give thanks for them and forgive yourself. You really can (and I recognize that it’s easier said than done)… just start by saying, “Thank you for my lessons. I forgive myself for pain these qualities have caused me and others.” (You may need to say it over and over before you actually mean it…) Then ask yourself how you can use these Qualities in true service, not only to others, but to your own higher purpose. Seen in this light, are the Qualities the same, or have they transformed into something with a more positive connotation? (There’s no wrong answer… just feel your way through this and remember to be amused at what you find!)
